Bad Experiences with a QNAP NAS? You are not alone…

QNAP NASQnap is a large computer system manufacturer specializing in network storage solutions. Among the most famous Qnap systems (now worldwide) we undoubtedly find the NAS system, appreciated above all as regards the management of multimedia stations, the sharing of corporate data and many other applications.

Qnap NAS’s are often used in redundant RAID configurations and, for this reason, they are erroneously considered to be infallible. On the contrary: data loss is possible in Qnap devices as is possible in any other system, regardless of redundancy levels. Natural disasters, user errors and hard disk failures can, in any case, cause serious data loss.

UAE Data Recovery Dubai is highly specialized in data recovery from all Qnap devices and boasts a high success rate, the result of experience deriving from the many cases resolved over the years.

Error messages on Qnap NAS devices

Error messages can indicate problems with the Qnap NAS device and, usually, are present in the GUI configuration panel of the device, if the latter is still functional.

Default network shares (Public, Qusb, Qmultimedia) do not exist. It’s suggested to reformate your SATA disk.

This error occurs in the GUI, typically after a failed rebuild and often indicates an even serious loss following which we must stop any further operation or attempt and entrust the disks to our data recovery laboratory. Often, in fact, it is still possible to access the data, except in cases where the rebuild corrupts the data.

Moving failed. The destination folder is the source folder.

If the data is still reachable it is necessary to try to transfer it before doing a rebuild or any other attempt that could damage them.

The following are other error messages that may occur. In case of problems, we always recommend communicating the error and printing the configuration screens.

  • Syntax or usage error
  • Protocol incompatibility
  • Errors selecting input / output files, dirs
  • Requested action not supported: 64-bit files on a platform that cannot support them; Error starting client-server protocol
  • Error in rsync protocol data stream
  • Errors with program diagnostics
  • Error in IPC code
  • Error allocating core memory buffers
  • Partial transfer due to error
  • Daemon unable to append to log-file
  • I / O socket error
  • Error in file I / O
  • Timeout in send / receive data

The configuration of the LEDs (the indicator lights on the front panel of the device) is also important, so it is useful to take note and tell us the situation.

The QNAP data recovery process

Our engineers are dedicated to every single case and its specificities, such as the presence of iscsi LUNs or virtual machines. The processing of NAS units follows a preferential line in order to guarantee a better response in the shortest possible time.

Usually, we only need system disks to perform recovery, not the NAS drive. Please send your NAS only if you have previously agreed with our technicians. We also remind you that our laboratory cannot be held responsible for any damage occurred during transport.

The discs from your QNAP device will be processed at our data recovery lab for analysis and recovery. A specialized instrument will be used which includes the use of the clean room for mechanical problems or the use of interfaces capable of communicating with low level disks. Our goal is to get the bitmap (RAW copy) of the disk with the least risk.

This method allows us not to use the original discs during the subsequent processing stages, which will be carried out 100% at our facilities and never by third-party laboratories.

Our worst enemy and corruption, the reconstruction phase has the task of restoring the correct structure of the raid and extrapolating as much information as possible within it.

Copies of your data will be available for remote verification at our laboratory awaiting your confirmation, acceptance and shipment of the recovered data.

QNAP – suggestions for data recovery

Serious data loss usually occurs due to incorrect actions made by the user following the problem that caused the system to shut down. In the presence of data failure and inaccessibility it is important to stop the NAS unit and never try:

To extract and insert the disks

To rebuild by replacing the disks, unless requested by a QNAP specialist or our engineer

To change the position of the disks

The best thing to do is to gather as much information as possible about the problem. Each data can be useful: GUI screens, error messages, environmental elements such as smoke, strange smells and noises.

The disks must be numbered before sending for data recovery; if possible try to do it before extracting them.

Contact UAE Data Recovery  as soon as possible, for information on how to proceed with the shipment or delivery of the media.

We are aware that the data contained within NAS storage is of great importance. Therefore our every action will be precise and respectful of your need to recover the data.
